The vast majority of colleges and universities require incoming freshman to spend their first year living in on-campus residence halls (dorms). Living on campus the first year or two is highly recommended because students who live off campus do not establish a feeling of belonging with the college they are attending.
If you are curious and want to see what off-campus housing is available or what may be available in the upcoming summer, check with your school for possible listings of apartments and rental houses. See if your college posts lists of students seeking off-campus housing so you can find a roommate with whom you can share costs.
