Thanksgiving is the most important holiday in which to plan well in advance.  Airline availability fills up quickly, especially on the Wednesday before and the Sunday after Thanksgiving; look at the academic calendar on your college’s website for the start and end of Thanksgiving vacation.  As soon as you know your schedule of classes, book your flights for travel during this holiday.  The same situation exists for semester/winter breaks, but planning for these holidays are not as crucial because colleges start and end their semester/winter breaks at different times.

If you travel by car, you should have Emergency Road Service so you can call for assistance if needed.  Be sure to check road conditions before you leave for college and return home.  Keep road maps of your travel route in your car in case you are required to make a detour (take an alternate route) due to road construction or severe weather conditions.
