Campus Visits and Interviews – Introduction

Make plans to visit your selected colleges and universities.  In-person visits will allow you to get a feel for each campus’s atmosphere, set up interviews with admission officers and a professor in your major, and to talk with current students.

Plan to visit your 7 selected colleges and universities.  Seniors – plan to visit college campuses in June, July or August 2008 or in fall 2008, and possibly in spring 2009.  Juniors – plan to visit campuses in spring 2009 and/or summer 2009.  Some students wait to see which colleges they are accepted to before visiting them.  It’s up to you, but we recommend visiting colleges before and after you get accepted to thoroughly evaluate them. After all, you are going to spend four years of your life in college so you must be happy at the college campus you choose.

Set up interviews with an admission officer and a professor who teaches a subject in your major. Interviews are optional, but an interview will show your interest and enthusiasm and will provide the opportunity to have some of your questions answered.  Also, interviews provide the opportunity to impress college representatives. Plan to bring your parents along on summer visits. It will be good to talk about your impressions of each college and university.

PARENTS!  Plan to attend college campus visits with your student.  Be ready to discuss findings and impressions with your student and help with important decisions.
