Calculate your Expected Family Contribution (EFC)

 

The EFC is calculated based on your family’s income, your status as a student, size of your family, the State you live in, the number of family members in college, and other information.  The EFC is the minimum amount of money you should expect to pay from cash savings or loans to attend a college or university.

To estimate your EFC, go to the FAFSA4caster: (https://fafsa4caster.ed.gov/FOTWWebApp/fotw0708/FFOTWServlet):  

 

  1. Enter your personal information (name, Social Security number, date of birth)  and create a password.  Click on “NEXT” at the page bottom.
  2. Step through the pages of the FAFSA4caster and answer the questions and click on “NEXT” to move to the page.  The FAFSA4caster will take about 30 minutes to complete.  Questions you will answer include:

•          Information about the student
•          Student status
•          Parents' Information
•          Student's finances
•          Student's college plans

 

After entering all required information, click on “SUBMIT MY FAFSA4CASTER”

 

Check the information shown and click on “NEXT.”

 

Your EFC will be provided.
