Research Colleges You Want to Apply to
If you haven’t started researching colleges and universities you
may want to apply to, begin now. Searching for colleges and universities
that are a good fit for you may sound difficult, but it’s relatively
easy. Begin by knowing that you should apply to 10 or more colleges and
universities. These colleges and universities
should include:
Three “Safety Schools”: Colleges
that you know you’ll
get accepted to based on your academic and extracurricular qualifications,
and can afford. It is highly recommended that at least one of your
Safety Schools be a true “financial aid safety school;” this
is a school you can definitely afford even if you receive little or no
financial aid.
Five “Match Schools”: Colleges
you really want to go to and should get accepted to based on your academic
and extracurricular qualifications, and should be able to afford.
Two “Reach Schools”: Colleges you
wish you could attend but may have trouble getting accepted; you may
need significant scholarships to pay for college expenses if you attend.
The trick to finding the best colleges and universities
is to match two factor groups: (1) the factors you want an “ideal” school
to possess and (2) the factors the school wants its student applicants
to possess. In other words, your goal is find colleges and universities
you would actually consider attending where you have a good chance of
being admitted based on your grades, test scores, accomplishments and
extracurricular activities. |
