Get Started – Military Academies  

The United States Military Academies give full-ride scholarships in exchange for years of military service after college graduation. The military academies include:

Army

Navy

Air Force

U.S. Coast Guard

Merchant Marines

Below is a condensed list of the MyCollegeCalendar recommended tasks for applying to United States Military Academies.

1. Before beginning the application process, make sure you meet the basic eligibility requirements.

2. Go to the military academy websites and complete pre-qualifying applications (called the “Candidate Questionnaire”, “Preliminary Application”, “PreCandidate Questionnaire” or “Application”).

3. Within days of completing the pre-qualifying questionnaire, start the process to obtain a nomination from U.S. Congressman, U.S. Senator, the Vice President, or the President. Be aware that requesting a nomination is a complete process within itself (includes letters of recommendation, grade transcript copies, etc.).

4. The information on your pre-qualifying application will be evaluated and if you’re considered “competitive” (worthy of consideration for admission), you’ll be mailed a complete application package.

5. If you are named an official candidate for admission by a Military Academy, you must complete all parts of the application package that will be mailed to you. This includes:

- The full application form, including three letters of recommendation, essay(s), and additional documents. 
- A medical examination directly from the Department of Defense Medical Examination Board (DoDMERB).

- A Physical Aptitude Examination ( PAE ) given by a recognized official of a Military Academy.

- An interview with an Academy representative.

6. Contact your local Liaison Officer for each Academy if you need assistance with the application process.

7. Apply for admission to non-military 4-year colleges and universities as a back-up plan.
