Parents – Get
Informed and Help With Important College Decisions.
PARENTS – The college admission process is stressful and at times
exhausting. Over the next several months, your son/daughter will have
some difficult decisions to make and a number of those decisions will
be made with a bit of uncertainty. As a parent, plan on attending college
visits, college information nights, and financial aid seminars with your
student.
Get informed and help with important decisions. Find the right
balance between making direct decisions for your son/daughter and being
completely removed from the process. During the academic year,
you should be aware of your child’s progress with the college admission
process and make yourself available when they need advice.
Recognize that your child may change his/her mind regarding college
majors, what they want from their college experience, which colleges
they will apply to, and which college they will attend. You can help
by offering plenty of encouragement, being a caring listener, and providing
appropriate guidance as needed.
Use the MyCollegeCalendar admission system to make sure admission steps
are completed and deadlines are met. Don’t nag your student
to complete all the steps needed to apply to college and to receive significant
scholarships and grants. Rather than alienate your child, use the
steps and information provided by MyCollegeCalendar to gently remind
your student of tasks to complete and forms to submit. |
