Clean Up Your FaceBook Pages

Be Sure to Clean-Up Language and Photographs on Facebook.com.

Clean-up any personal information you and your friends have posted on all your internet social network websites.  Many colleges and universities will review these social networking sites (such as Facebook.com) where students who are applying to their college have posted information.

If you have profanity, pornography, or immoral, disgusting or vulgar language and photographs on your internet social network profiles, YOU MAY BE REJECTED BY COLLEGES YOU APPLY TO.  Remove all questionable language or photos you have posted.

In addition, scan your friends’ pages.  Photographs and text that are posted by your friends may be “tagged” with your name and can be found just as easy as if you posted the information yourself.  Don’t be afraid to ask your friends to remove potentially damaging material about you.

As a college-bound student, consider posting information that will impress college admission officers.  You can do this using your “main” social networking account or set up a separate account whose sole purpose is to influence college representatives who conduct internet searches to find information about you.
