Recommended assistance for high school athletes is provided through the links and shown below.  Don’t forget to ask for advice from your high school coach and high school counselor.

A convenient and effective way for student athletes to market themselves to college coaches is to:

Research colleges that have your sport of interest.  Find colleges and universities with specific NCAA sports teams by using the NCAA sports team search engine; select your sport and division and click on “Run Report.”

Write a student résumé and letter of introduction and mail these documents to each college coach whose team you are interested in playing for.

Excellent free information for student athletes is provided by the online NCAA Eligibility Center and by the NAIA athlete eligibility and guidelines

  • Suggested questions to ask college coaches include:
  • What are the graduation rates of players on your team?
  • What happens to athletic scholarships if you’re injured or cut from the team?
  • How do coaches manage player injuries?  What is the athletic department’s philosophy on player injuries?
  • How well do athletes manage missing classes when the team travels?
  • Are professors supportive?
  • Is tutoring available?
  • How would you describe your coaching style?
  • Describe the invited and uninvited walk-on situation.  How many athletes make it, compete and earn scholarships
  • What are the physical requirements each year?  Are there strength and conditioning requirements?
