Strategy During College Fairs
You and your parents need to be as efficient as possible at college
fairs. Upon arrival, find copies of the fair directory (list
of participating colleges and universities) and map of college table
locations. At smaller-sized fairs, all tables will be located
in the same room (such as a high school gymnasium); at larger fairs,
tables may be located in several rooms or in different buildings. Note
the schools of greatest interest and their table location.
Plan your route through the fair. Visit all the colleges of
interest that are in the same room before moving to the next. After
you leave each table (and before you reach the next), write down your
impressions of the college and the answers college admission representatives
provided to you. Use page 2 on the College Fair Question sheet to record your impressions and to rate each college.
Find the schedule for information sessions; note the times of sessions
you or your parents are interested in attending. Typically, there
will be sessions on financial aid, the application process, the college
search process, etc. There will be opportunities to ask questions at
these information sessions.
After spending time together visiting college tables and representatives,
you may want to split up with your parents to make more efficient use
of your time. For example, parents may want to listen to a financial
aid seminar while you visit more colleges and universities or casually
walk around the entire college fair area. Be sure to pick up
business cards from representatives of colleges and universities of
greatest interest to you and ask questions
so you can get to know these schools. |
