Register for Summer Pre-college Programs
Before They Get Booked.
Many colleges and universities offer “summer pre-college programs” (also
called Summer Enrichment Programs) for sophomore, junior, and senior
year high school students that last from 2-to-6 weeks. Students
who attend these pre-college summer programs experience college level
work and a small preview of college life. They choose their classes
and live on campus without parents. Student responsibilities
include self-reliance on attending class and completing homework, doing
laundry, attending meetings, eating meals during dining hours, and
other aspects of college life. Students stay in dorms and use
college gyms and dining halls.
Pre-college programs may include courses taught by professors for
college credit, themes of language and cultural immersion, SAT® prep
courses, or community service programs. Afternoons are filled with
leisure activities; weekends often include excursions to local areas
of interest.
Participation in these summer programs can provide an advantage in
making decisions about which college best suits your needs. Contact
a college of your choice to see if they offer pre-college summer programs. Costs
range from approximately $1,500 to $7,500 for programs lasting two-to
six-weeks.
Many summer programs are fully booked by early spring, so register
as soon as possible. |
