Apply for Student and Parent FAFSA PINs
FAFSA PINs (Personal Identification Numbers) are required for both you
(the student) and one of your parents.
To get a FAFSA PIN, go to FAFSA
PIN Registration. You’ll need to enter your name, Social
Security number, and other information. Parents will have to supply
information, also.
Click on “APPLY FOR A PIN ” in the page upper left,
Read the instructions, then click “ NEXT ” in the blue arrow
on the page lower right,
Enter your personal information (name, address, date of birth, social
security number, your e-mail address, etc.),
Click on “NEXT ” in the blue arrow on the page bottom to
submit your online PIN application information,
When your FAFSA PIN application is complete, the U.S. Department of
Education will send an e-mail with your and your parent’s PIN. Print
the PINs and put them in a folder in your paper
filing system. This will make it easy to find this information
later. If you lose your PIN, you can request that the Department
of Education send you a reminder. A PIN will allow you and your
parent to sign the FAFSA electronically, make corrections to your FAFSA
information, review your federal student aid records online, and complete
your Renewal FAFSA next school year.
If you wait to apply for a FAFSA PIN (or to complete the FAFSA itself)
until the last week of February 2009, the FAFSA website may be so busy
that it could take you much longer than expected to receive you PIN or
to complete the application. Don’t wait to the last minute
to apply for your FAFSA PIN and to complete the FAFSA itself.
For questions regarding problems or difficulties using the FAFSA PIN Web
pages, or specific questions about the PIN , call the Federal Student Aid
Information Center at 800-4-FED-AID (800-433-3243) or 319-337-5665 (TTY
users may call 800-730-8913). |
