Print and Begin Filling Out the FAFSA Worksheet

Prepare yourself and your parents for completing the FAFSA application in January 2012 by printing a paper copy of the FAFSA Worksheet.

PRINTING AND FILLING OUT THE FAFSA WORKSHEET - BEFORE JANUARY 1, 2012:
Print the draft version of the 2012-2013 FAFSA Worksheet. This is a draft version of the Worksheet and should be nearly identical to final version that will be available after January 1, 2012. There is also a draft 2012-2013 FAFSA on the Web Worksheet available that is less detailed and will only partially prepare you for submitting the online FAFSA after January 1, 2012.

PRINTING AND FILLING OUT THE FAFSA WORKSHEET - AFTER JANUARY 1, 2012:
Print a paper copy of the FAFSA Worksheet.  Also, a less detailed FAFSA on the Web Worksheet can be downloaded by clicking on one of the links in the page center in blue letters, "2012-2013 FAFSA on the Web Worksheet (color)" or "2012-2013 FAFSA on the Web Worksheet (black & white)".

To complete the FAFSA Worksheet, your parents will need to be prepared to:

1. Estimate 2011 earnings from jobs and other sources.
2. Give bank statement information.
3. Give investment information.
4. Provide benefit information (including Social Security, veterans’ and welfare benefits).
5. Provide other financial information.

You and your parents will need to have tax and financial records ready to review when completing the Worksheet.  These records include:

1. Student’s Social Security Number.
2. Student driver's license number (if any).
3. Student’s and parents’ 2011 W-2 forms (if available) and other 2011 records of money earned from jobs and other sources.
4. Student’s and parents’ income tax returns’ – use 2010 tax returns to help with estimating income earned in 2011 or use 2011 income tax returns, if available.

5. Student’s and parents’ 2011 untaxed income records - Social Security, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, welfare, or veterans benefits records.
6. Student’s and parents’ most recent bank statements.
7. Parents’ most recent business and investment mortgage information, business and farm records, stock, bond, and other investment records
8. Student’s alien registration number or permanent residence card (if the student is not a U.S. citizen)

Have your parents fill out the draft version of the version of the 2012-2013 FAFSA Worksheet by hand before January 1, 2012.  Your parents should use estimates of your and their earned income and assets for 2011 to complete this Worksheet.  Corrections to the estimates can be made later in February 2012.

For assistance before January 1, 2012 refer to the detailed, question-by-question instructions for completing the 2011-2012 FAFSA Worksheet.

After January 1, 2012, refer to the question-by-question instructions for completing the 2012-2013 FAFSA.

Failure to complete the FAFSA application by your colleges’ deadlines means you will receive NO need-based financial aid.  Failure to complete the FAFSA application in a timely fashion (as per the schedule in the MyCollegeCalendar™ admission system) can negatively impact the amount of financial aid awards you receive.

With a completed FAFSA Worksheet in hand, you and your parents will be ready to enter your information into the online FAFSA in early January 2012.
