Understanding Your SAR.
The Student Aid Report (SAR) is a summary of the information entered
into your FAFSA; it also shows the resulting Expected Family Contribution
(EFC). The EFC is the number used by federal and state governments
to determine you eligibility for government financial aid. The
EFC is also used by colleges to determine your eligibility for need-based
financial aid.
The schools listed on your FAFSA will receive your FAFSA information
and will use the information and EFC to calculate the amount of financial
aid you are eligible to receive.
When you complete your FAFSA and submit it
online you will receive
your SAR in 1-to-3 days via e-mail from FederalStudentAidFAFSA@cpsemail.ed.gov. It
is recommended that you add this e-mail address to your address book
so your internet browser will accept this incoming e-mail (and will
not reject it as spam). Also, check your bulk or junk mail because
the SAR may be delivered to these folders.
If you complete and mail a paper FAFSA, you should receive the SAR
in 3-to-4 weeks via regular U.S. mail.
If you haven’t received an electronic or paper SAR within 4
weeks of submitting your FAFSA, call the Federal Student Aid Information
Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) between 8 a.m. and midnight
(Eastern Time), seven days a week. TTY users may call 800-730-8913.
An exact duplicate of a SAR
