Architecture Portfolio Requirements
Portfolios usually are required
of student applicants who declare architecture as their major field
of study; this is in addition to standard application forms and documents.
Typically, 10 or more creative
pieces are required in portfolios; this can include both pieces of
art and creative writing examples. Art pieces typically require the
use of different media (paper, canvas, clay, photographs, digital images,
etc.) and different applications (color, black and white, paintbrush,
pencil, sculptures, etc.). Instructions for creative writings are specific
to each college and can be found on each college’s website.
If you are applying to college as an architecture major, research
portfolio requirements of each college you will apply to and create
a plan for completing portfolios. Start early; completing high quality
works of art and writing pieces will take longer than you think. Many
colleges require digital photographs of art work to be submitted in
a very specific format, so pay attention to details given in the portfolio
instructions.
