Required Immunizations for College Students

Numerous colleges and universities require incoming freshman to receive Hepatitis B immunization.  The Hepatitis B vaccination is given in 3 doses over a 5- to 6-month period.  Ask you doctor if you need to be immunized against Hepatitis B and if you do, receive the first shot as soon as possible so you can finish the series of 3 shots before you leave for college in fall.

Also, before you arrive at your college in August-September, you will be asked to provide proof of immunization against measles and rubella, or measles, mumps, and rubella.

Additionally, most colleges recommend incoming freshmen living on-campus receive immunization against meningitis (meningococcal disease).

Check the immunization requirements of colleges you have been accepted to and plan to receive all immunizations well ahead of schedule.
