Parents – Attend College Orientation.
Parents should attend parent orientation at
their student’s
college; parent orientation is usually offered at the same time as
freshman orientation and provides helpful insights into the college
community. Many colleges and universities require parents to
register before orientation and some schools charge a small fee. Contact
your student’s college to determine parent requirements and fees.
At orientation, parents have the opportunity
to tour the campus, dorms,
classrooms, library, and dining hall and informally meet faculty and
admissions staff. Typically, seminars are conducted for parents
to learn about financial aid, academics, housing, health services,
student safety, student organizations, student social events, and much
more. Parents gain better understanding and perspective of the
academic and social aspects of the college by attending orientation.
In addition, parents usually have the opportunity
to work with administrators to confirm student financial aid and the overall payment schedule for
college expenses. |
