Prepare Your Parents for Completing the CSS/PROFILE Financial
Aid Application (if it's required by your colleges or universities).
The CSS/PROFILE is a lengthy financial aid application very similar
to the FAFSA. While
the FAFSA is used to award federal government student aid, the CSS/PROFILE
is used by many private schools and scholarship programs to determine
financial need to award non-federal government student aid.
If your colleges and universities require you to complete a CSS/PROFILE
application to be eligible for need-based financial aid, prepare your
parents to complete the application as early as November 1, 2011 (or
as late as February 15, 2012). Cost for submitting a CSS/PROFILE
application is $25.00 (including one school report) plus $16.00 for each
additional college you wish your information to be sent.
To complete the CSS/PROFILE, your parents must have financial
and personal information ready to enter. This includes:
2011 U.S. income tax returns or estimates of your income 2011.
2011 U.S. income tax returns (if completed).
W-2 forms and other records of money earned in 2011.
Records of untaxed income benefits for 2010 and 2011.
Current bank statements.
Current mortgage information.
Records of savings, stocks, bonds, trusts, and other investments.
Business and farm records.
To complete and submit the CSS/PROFILE application:
1. Complete the Pre-Application
Worksheet
2. Complete
registration online and submit online.
3. Make
necessary corrections to the application after you and your parents
have completed your 2011 federal tax returns. |
